The Godfather's Caged Bird

A crime heir locks a scholar in luxury for ten years; she escapes to Cambridge.

Eighteen-year-old Elena Bennett trades her future to Damian Moretti, heir to a New York crime dynasty, after her mother drowns in underground debt. He clears the ledger but confines her to his estate for a decade, providing every luxury except autonomy. When Damian arranges a political marriage to Victoria Rossi, Elena surprises everyone by requesting only admission to Cambridge. Convinced she will fail, he enrolls her in a lesser college. Victoria frames her for theft and Damian sides with his fiancée, severing Elena's last tie to him. Still restricted, she secretly studies, reconnects with former classmate Aiden Walker, and earns top exam grades. Feigning submission, she persuades Damian to take her to Europe and escapes during an Istanbul stopover. Admitted to Cambridge, she rebuilds her life while Damian follows, divorces Victoria, and proposes, but she chooses a future with Aiden.
