Never Look Back, Daughter. Run.

Cellar-raised Vera escapes, exposes uncle's lie, and brings kidnapper to justice.

Vera has never seen the ocean, only her mother Maya's charcoal sketches on a cellar wall where they have been held for a decade since a police officer abducted Maya on graduation night. After breaking free, Vera confronts her uncle at a Boston gala, revealing his claim of Maya's death as a lie, then testifies against the corrupt cop. The story builds toward a beach wedding where Vera finally witnesses the sea her mother drew.
